SkillSelect invitation 20 September 2017 round results

On 20 September 2017, the Department of Immigration has issued the recent number of invitations in the SkillSelect invitation round.

The numbers of invitations issued for Skilled – Independent (subclass 189) visa were only 1,750 and 47 for Skilled – Regional Provisional (subclass 489) visa.

This shows a high difference of skillselect invitation round in comparison with the earlier invitation dates such as July and August, 2017.

Invitations issued during 2017-18

Invitations issued during 2017-18 were decreased significantly (i.e., 3500 places in September) for subclass Skilled – Independent (subclass 189) between 2,000 places in July and 2,000 in August. The total number of invitations have been received since July, 2017 is 7500 for the skilled independent visa (Subclass 189).

It is also noticeable that during this time period, the numbers of invitations for Skilled – Regional Provisional (subclass 489) were also lowered considerably from 256 in August to 47 in September. Overall, the numbers of invitations were slowed down significantly for both of this subclass between 2,256 in August and 13593 in September.

The above figures do not include invitations issued for State and Territory Government nominated visa subclasses. State and Territory Governments nominate throughout the month for specific points tested skilled migration and business innovation and investment visas. Separate results for these visa subclasses are provided monthly.

Invitation process and cut offs

The highest ranked clients by points score are invited to apply for the relevant visa. For clients who have equal points scores, the time at which they reached their points score for that subclass (referred to as the visa date of effect) determines their order of invitation. Expressions of Interest with earlier dates of effect are invited before later dates.

Visa Subclass Points score Visa date of effect
Skilled – Independent (subclass 189) 65 13/09/2017 12.05 am
Skilled – Regional Provisional (subclass 489) 60 19/09/2017  4.27 am

Due to high levels of demand, and in keeping with previous years, the below occupation groups will be subject to pro rata arrangements to ensure availability of invitations across the programme year. SkillSelect first allocates available places to Skilled – Independent visas (subclass 189) and then the remaining to Skilled – Regional (Provisional) visas (subclass 489). If all places are taken up by subclass 189 visas then there will be no invitations issued for subclass 489 visas in these occupations.
